On the 3rd Tuesday of each month, SeniorTech of Puget Sound supports a technology-related discussion of interest to seniors and individuals who enjoy helping seniors benefit from the technology available to them. ENN is honored to be invited to present a talk at the March meeting.
ENN is a "virtual" - that is, Internet-based, non-physically located - community of members, volunteers, and friendly neighbors formed to help older Bellevue residents build a support network for social engagement and neighborly help. We hold free social and educational programs; and we match volunteers with members who request specific services such as transportation, pet care, help around the house or yard, or in-home assistance with technology.
Can a web-based program help seniors make new friends and find volunteer help when they need it? Based on the national success of villages everywhere, we know it can! But like most villages, Eastside Neighbors Network (ENN) faces social and tech-related challenges as we ramp up our program and work to share our mission with the community.
Please join us at the March meeting of SeniorTech to learn more and contribute your ideas. At this event, we will briefly tell the story of ENN and how it currently benefits members. We will then tour the ENN web site (www.MyENN.org) and invite discussion of ways to explore how we respond to three basic challenges:
1. The sheer size of Bellevue and surrounding areas we want to serve;
2. The cultural reticence about asking for help; and
3. The reality that many seniors are reluctant to engage with technology.
This will be an informal, non-technical discussion. All ages and levels of tech savvy are welcome!

SeniorTech of Puget Sound is a local nonprofit organization with the goal of providing computer and related device literacy to any senior and other persons willing to learn. Their volunteers offer one-on-one technical support for computer and mobile devices at the North Bellevue Community Center on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, and the 5th Tuesday when there is one. Labs are from 9:30 to noon, and everyone is welcome.
